Meet the Maker

Howdy folks!
I'm Jess, a multi-disciplinary artist with a radial focus in Floral preservation, Stained Glass Design, Linocut Block Prints, Acrylics, and Watercolor Painting. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
As I navigate this terrifyingly beautiful existence as a human, I try to incorporate my most raw and authentic experiences into my art. Life is hard. Mental Health is important. Creative outlets have always been my saving grace for developing an understanding of life. In order to make light work, we've got to do some heavy lifting. We have got to make the conscious decision to choose the light, even when we're surrounded by darkness. The law of attraction/ the anticipation of happiness/ the power of positive thinking is key. My goal is to spread light and love for this planet, this life and the humbling privilege to create through nature-based stained glass.
A naturalist at heart, I am inspired by deep earth tones. I gravitate towards shades of amber, blue, green, and yellow.
I love the learning experience-- the trial and error, experimentation, and perspective shifts. I enjoy the excruciating, yet beautiful process of finding fresh ways to share ideas and understand this messy world. For me, art is subjective, as the cliche goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Art is about embracing the perpetual change, the pain and the heartache, as well as enjoying the moments that are riveting and encapsulating.
Existing in the now.
Existing simply.
If you see something you like, please reach out. I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping in.
Stay radiant,
- Jess Raney
Art Process
The process I use for my wall hangings utilizes tiffany style stained glass techniques to create frames and décor. First, I collect plants and foliage from the West Virginia mountains or a local fresh cut floral vendor. Then begins the fun part. I press each flower for custom designed orders. I hand cut each piece of glass to the size of the commission, and sandwich my plant material between them. I solder and patina all of my frames as well as my stained glass pieces. My goal is to make affordable art for everyone who has an appreciation for stained glass and nature.

Stained Glass Process
I use Tiffany inspired glass techniques to create frames and décor.
First, I collect plants and foliage from the West Virginia mountains or a local fresh cut floral vendor. Then begins the fun part-- I press foraged foliage and flowers for custom design orders utilizing my version of a traditional herbarium press. I, then, hand cut each piece of glass to the size of the commission and sandwich the plant material between them. Lastly, I solder and patina all of my frames as well as my stained-glass pieces. I create to embrace my love for our natural world and to share that passion with my community.
